For the third year in a row, the Engle's and the Schmidt's organized a week long ski expedition in Colorado's 10th Mountain Division Hut System. A large Pocatello crew departed for Colorado on Mar 23rd and along the way at the SLC airport, we picked up a strong infusion of young skiers from Western Washington University @ Bellingham.

10th Mountain Division Huts are a system of 34 backcountry huts in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, connected by 350 miles of suggested routes. The huts are typically deluxe log lodges that provide beds for 16, fully equipped kitchens, dining room, living room with wood burning stoves for warmth, and solar panels (or propane gas lanterns) for lights at night. The name honors the men of 10th Mountain Division of the U.S. Army, who trained during World War II at Camp Hale in central Colorado and later fought in the Italian Alps. History of the 10th Mtn Division can be found here: 10th Mtn Division History.

This year our route started and ended at Yeoman Park trailhead near Eagle, Colorado. We spent two nights at the Polar Star Inn and three nights at the Peter Estin Hut. After skiing out on the last day, we spent the night at the Denver Hotel in Glenwood Springs. On Saturday, most of the crew returned home but Mike, Terran, and Bryan skied at Vail before returning home on Sunday.
