First day of trip involved acclimating while hauling heavy packs across 6.6 miles and 2,000 feet of elevation gain. The weather was cold but still a good day for skiing and route finding with no significant snowfall or visibility issues. The route was straight forward for the first ~5 miles up a fire road that was well used by snowmobiles. The junction for the last steep approach was easy to find and follow. By then the steepness and elevation kicked everyone's ass to one degree or another.
Everyone was quite tired (or exhausted) upon reaching the Polar Star Inn but soon we had a warm fire going, hot drinks available, and everyone began to recover from the day's labor.
